I believe in the power of language. I also believe in the power of listening. Too often too much attention is paid to the former and too little to the latter. Like most people, I thrive on ideas, even those I disagree with or plainly dislike. In fact, they are the ones that force me to open up my thinking and therefore grow. For instance, the theme of mass movements and how they affect individual thinking has always fascinated me.
The Wastelanders grew out of that fascination. Change oil exploration to the need for water and where better to start than in a drought-stricken post-apocalyptic Texas? After all, corporate power and greed, soldiers of fortune, shifty politicians and rugged individuals have been a part of our culture here for a long time now.
